Cultural Acknowledgement & Roots

I acknowledge the Jagera People, the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which I grew up in Brisbane, Australia, and recognise their deep and enduring connection to land, waters, story, and spirit. I pay my respects to their Elders—past, present, and emerging—and honour the wisdom they carry.

The image above is a quiet tribute to interconnected identity—to growing up between lands, lineages, and languages. It blends the richness of Indian heritage, the grounding of British beginnings, and the enduring influence of Australia with its Indigenous History. To those who, like me, have grown up in-between—across continents, cultures, and expectations—this image is for you. It reflects the strength of plural stories, the healing power of shared understanding, and the beauty of becoming whole across many worlds.

🇮🇳🌏 A Note to the In-Betweeners

You’re not just a future doctor. You’re someone who’s learning how to belong—between cultures, systems, and expectations.

Maybe you were born in the UK. Or Australia. Or Canada. Or Dubai.
Your roots are Indian or Chinese. Your upbringing is global.
You speak English like a native, but eat with your hands.
Your parents want you to become a doctor—not just for the prestige, but because they see your potential.
And you carry all of that—in your heart, in your history, and in your hopes.

I’m Mahi. I was born in Oxford, raised in Cambridge, moved to Australia at 12, and I’m now studying medicine back in the UK.
I’ve watched my grandparents struggle at the end of life and wished I could help them.
I’ve trained in Indian classical dance, played cricket at state level, and navigated three healthcare systems.
I know what it feels like to be too Indian for the West, too Western for India.
And I’ve learned that curiosity, kindness, and courage belong everywhere.

That’s why I created Medlock Holmes—not just as a study space, but as a home for people like us.

If you’ve ever felt in-between, you’re not alone.
You belong here.

“Medicine is a bridge. Let’s build it together.”
